Near Wellbore Flow Dynamics

Slot Density Optimization

Regent Energy's reservoir engineering technology team utilizes pertinent reservoir data to estimate the optimum slotted liner slot density for a horizontal wellbore. Regent's slot density model is empirically and theoretically based and is used to estimate the near wellbore flow dynamics. Estimating the near wellbore flow dynamics helps in determining the optimum slotted liner slot density by calculating the optimum multiphase flow velocity to fluid flow and the potential for inducing drag forces on the sand within the flow convergence to the slot. Open area is not the best measure for estimating an optimum slot density value. This is due to the fact that different slot widths can have the same open area but provide very different flow convergence (i.e./slot skin factor) and of course sand control, including flow velocity and formation plugging mechanics.
